Altered Postcards - Julie's Way

April's Challenge is HERE

Quite often in the op shops or at markets you can buy a stash
of postcards for cents.

I like using them when I want to do a series of small art pieces.
All the same size and weight makes for quick results.

On these, I used the card paint swipe with PaperArtsy Fresco paints.

This series I explored stencilling and heat embossing.

On modern postcards there is often a plasticised layer with the printing.
Heat it and it puffs and bubbles.
I ripped this layer away.
The cardstock is quite strong.

With this as a base I then explored ways to dress the postcards.

I punched a few holes across the piece and threaded through sari silk scraps.
It reminded me of the sewing cards I had as a girl.

A few jewels, a fabric piece and complementing cardstock
finished off  "Celestial"

Did you know that if your acrylic paint is not fully dry
you can add embossing powder
and then heat emboss?

I sprinkled embossing powders through a stencil.
I took the stencil away before using the heat gun

The effects will be different depending on what
embossing powders you use.

See, I told you I had sewing cards and being a girl on my mind.
This piece is "Off the Wall."

Have you entered in Rhedd's  Creative Spirit Challenge this month?
As long as it is mixed media we would love to see it.
Maybe even an altered postcard or two?
Until Next Time
